Thomas J. Bucholz, Professional Investigator
Thomas J. Bucholz has more than 25 years of experience providing policy and strategic counsel to leaders in the private, public, and philanthropic sectors.
A former investigative journalist, Bucholz worked for a Michigan daily newspaper for four years, covering law enforcement, criminal and civil justice proceedings, state and local government, colleges and universities, and other topics.
Recruited to Michigan state government, Bucholz spent a decade directing advocacy and policy initiatives for both Republicans and Democrats, having served as a senior policy advisor and strategist in two state departments and the Executive Office. As a campaign strategist, Bucholz has 15 years of success with political candidates at all levels, as they’ve been elected to public office across the state, from county commission to tribal government to United States Congress and United States Senate.
Bucholz also has worked as a senior director in Michigan’s largest investor relations and public relations firm. In the company’s Lansing office, he led billable work for clients in the education, financial services, defense, energy, and health care sectors. In 2014, he opened his own Lansing-based firm and has serviced more than 100 clients in several states, helping them achieve an array of goals. Among those clients, he has worked with several Michigan law firms on case intake, research, and discovery issues.
A licensed professional investigator, Bucholz works directly with attorneys at George Law to help them with researching evidence and the firm’s discovery process, finding information that helps them win their cases for clients.
Bucholz holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Central Michigan University, and a Masters of Public Administration from Western Michigan University. He is a distinguished fellow of the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP) at Michigan State University, the country’s most respected bi-partisan political training program., and also has completed Executive Education courses at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
